Yes we all want to race fast! Did you know that when you are training that most of the running that you do should be much slower than the pace you hope to race at!
Aerobic development takes years to develop and is best developed by running slow or should I say anywhere between 60-75% of your max heart rate. This type of training should be according to some experts should be up to 80% of their training.
Now in the age of technology this should be easy to do but regularly when checking out my athletes garmin data I see that they are running too fast.
Yes fast running and running at race pace are essential but are only part of the training processes to help one improve.
One of the hardest parts of being an endurance athlete is the slow process that it takes to develop aerobic fitness but by doing the volume required to achieve your goal significant improvements can be made.
Good luck and go slow!
